How to use an Eyelash Curler

How to use an eyelash curler. Curling eyelashes make your eyes look wider & brighter. Metal eyelash curlers are better than plastic. You'll want to replace the pads on the curler every 2 months. For best results, you'll want to gentrly heat the curler with a blowdryer for no more than 5 seconds.

Here's How:

1. Eyelash curlers work best on clean eyelashes. Make sure eyelashes are free of mascara. If necessary, use eye makeup remover to remove old mascara.

2. With your blowdryer on low heat, blow air on the curler for no more than 5 seconds. Touch the metal. If it's hot, let it cool for a few seconds. You don't want to burn your eyelid.

3. Open the curler, clamp lashes near the roots. Hold for 10-30 seconds. Never curl lashes after you apply mascara -- as the mascara dries, lashes can stick to the curler & be torn from the roots. Don't bother curling bottom lashes.

4. Repeat on the other eye

3 more mascara tips

Tip #4: When applying mascara, wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots (not the tips) that gives the illusion of length.

Tip #5: Thin, short brushes are best. A thinner brush allows you to get into the corner of eyes. Short brushes give you more control.

Tip #6: Give a few coats to the edges by blinking. Blink onto the brush to give ends an extra coat.

Keep Eyeshadow in place

I hate the way eyeshadow wears out by the end of the day, all of it sliding into the crease of the eye leaving you looking like you've taken to lining the middle of your lid with goopy eyeliner. I figured there wasn't much you could do about it until I went to the M.A.C. counter and had a makeover. It was there I was turned on to M.A.C.'s 'Paints' collection. The pearlized texture stays put all day and into the night and I'm convinced it wouldn't leave your lid for weeks if you didn't take makeup remover to it. You spread it on your lid then top it with your eyeshadow and Voila! your good to go for days.

Everything You Need to Know About Mascara - Tip 1 & Tip 2

Tip #1: Skip the lash comb. They're really just fussy. Instead, remove excess mascara by wiping the wand on a tissue, eliminating the blobs BEFORE you start.

Tip #2: Try a clean mascara wand. Sweep a clean, fresh mascara wand through lashes when they're wet. Don't worry, you don't have to buy them. When you finish a mascara, clean the wand in a capful of eye makeup remover, then wash with soap & dry. Keep it clean by washing it whenever you wash your makeup tools.

How to put on fake eyelashes

You have tried all the latest brands of mascara, but your lashes are still too short. You might want to consider trying lashes of the false variety.

Here's what you need:

-good pair of tweezers
-eyelash glue-lashes... individual sections

I would suggest that you start with individual lashes instead of strip lashes which are the most difficult to apply. Pick up the lashes with the tweezers.

Dip the tips of the lashes into a little glue.

Position the lashes where you want the extra length and hold in place until the glue sets.

Note:

It is a good idea to curl your natural lashes so that they will have the same amount of curl as the lashes that you have just set in place.

If you normally use mascara on your lashes to darken them, do so before attaching the new lashes.

One you have mastered the individual lashes, then you can move onto lash strips. But chances are, you won't want to. They can easily look fake if the application is not perfect.

Is it safe to lighten eyebrows?

Q:I get my dark hair colored blonde, but my eyebrows are still dark. Is it safe to have them lightened or do it myself?

A.
Many women get their brows lightened, even though the FDA warns against brow tinting. Richard Bensinger, M.D., of the American Academy of Ophlamologists, said in In Style's July 2005 issue that brow tinting is a fairly safe treatment. The worst that can happen is mild irritation if the peroxide gets in your eyes.I'd suggest not tinting at home, however. At-home kits contain bleach, which can turn your brows reddish. Instead, call ahead to your local salon & find out if there are any colorists who are used to doing brows. Also, your best bet is to get them done when you get your hair done or right after. It's easier for the stylist to find the right match.

Fall's on it's Way:

4 Tips to Celebrate

Here are some beauty tips to consider for the upcoming months:

1. As your tan fades with the summer sun, you'll want to consider a new shade of foundation. Many women find they need one shade for summer & one for winter.

2. The cooler air will rob your skin of moisture. So invest in a great moisturizer BEFORE the cold weather hits.

3. In the summer, it's great to treat yourself to pedicures. In the winter, save money by doing them yourself & instead invest in a monthly facial. Don't want the cost? Do it yourself

4. Some trends come & go, but wavy hair is here to stay. (At least for another season). If you haven't perfected the look yet, you should, because it's not going away anytime soon. Afraid your hair can't keep curl? No worries. Even the straightest hair has some natural curl in it.

Do You Really Need to Wash Hair Twice?

I challenge you to find a shampoo bottle that doesn't contain the directions to 'rinse & repeat' (or some version of that). While some experts claim the first washing removes, dirt, oil & product buildup while the second adds volume, it's really not necessary to rinse & repeat if you did a proper job the first time. Just use common sense: If you have short hair, a good initial wash will do you. If you have long or really thick hair, a second coat may be optimal. Personally, I've always wondered if companies put that on the back to get you to use more shampoo.

How To Apply Makeup in Five Minutes

You have exactly five minutes before rushing out the door. Here are the steps you can follow to apply your makeup in as little as five minutes.

1. Dot on moisturizer. In most cases, it is recommended that you wait for ten minutes before applying foundation, but there will be times when we simply haven't the time.
2. Apply foundation and blend. I was always a big sponge user and while I have no problem with them, I have found something even better. A foundation brush gives great coverage without sponge marks. In fact, no one will ever guess that you even have foundation on.
3. Apply blush and blend. Powder blushes are the easiest to apply.
4. Apply your favorite eye shadow. A light coverage is all you will need.
5. Apply eyeliner according to eye shape. As we are working on limited time, concentrate on the outer corners. Less chance of a messy application.
6. Apply mascara to lashes.
7. Using a fat brown pencil, apply color to brow bone and blend.
8. If your brows need color, apply it now with small strokes of a pencil.
9. Color your lips. A lipbrush gives a better application and takes no more time than lipstick straight from a tube.
10. Powder your nose and t-zone with loose powder.
11. Check your blush and add a tiny bit more if necessary

Look Good Under Fluorescent Lights

The secret to non-sallow skin is to use makeup with yellow undertones, says makeup artist Bobbi Brown in this month's Lucky Magazine. Pinkish foundation looks pasty under harsh indoor lighting. To finish off your look, try a peachy-pink blush, but go for the powder over the cream or gels. Why? Powder lasts longer.
