Is it safe to lighten eyebrows?

Q:I get my dark hair colored blonde, but my eyebrows are still dark. Is it safe to have them lightened or do it myself?

A.
Many women get their brows lightened, even though the FDA warns against brow tinting. Richard Bensinger, M.D., of the American Academy of Ophlamologists, said in In Style's July 2005 issue that brow tinting is a fairly safe treatment. The worst that can happen is mild irritation if the peroxide gets in your eyes.I'd suggest not tinting at home, however. At-home kits contain bleach, which can turn your brows reddish. Instead, call ahead to your local salon & find out if there are any colorists who are used to doing brows. Also, your best bet is to get them done when you get your hair done or right after. It's easier for the stylist to find the right match.
