Adult Acne

If you noticed the acne you had when you were 15 is returning at age 35, rest assured, you're in good company. One in five women between the ages of 25 & 40 suffer from adult acne. Here are a few facts about adult acne:

Fact #1: Acne usually begins with blackheads Blackheads are not dirt, they're actually the result of oil & dead cells getting trapped in a pore, block the duct & mix with bacteria. They then turn black when exposed to air. Red pimples develop when blackheads become inflamed and they spread when touched with dirty hands. Ick! When the pimple becomes infected, it develops a whitehead or pustule. These can break & cause scars.

Fact #2: There are several causes of adult acne These are: Stress, bad cosmetics, hormones & birth control pills. Stress causes your oil glands to overcompensate. Bad cosmetics leads to bacteria-laden pores. Hormones cause the sebacuous glands to overact & birth control pills with androgen in them can cause breakouts.

Fact #3: Cheese & chocolate have nothing to do with your acne What do you do need to do is get a good facial. Why? Because acne is not a disease, rather it is a condition of the skin & a good facialist knows exactly what your skin needs: sulfur, zinc & camphor masks, exfoliation, blackhead extractions & at-home follow-up.

Is there a cure for bad breath?

Answer:

The key here is to get rid of the culprits. You’ll need to keep bacteria at bay by daily flossing and brushing. You also want to drink plenty of water. It’s especially important to brush and floss at night, when production of saliva slows down causing ‘dry mouth.’ Buy a tongue-scraper and use it in combination with brushing your tongue. Sugarless gum also does an excellent job of cleaning out the crevices where bacteria like to breed.

Tip Alert! Do You Get Breakouts?

If you get breakouts only on certain parts of your face, beware, it might be caused by something you haven't considered. For example, if you breakout on one side of your face, it could mean your phone is dirty. Chin breakouts? Stop resting your chin in your palm. Keep your bangs clean if your forehead breaks out and make sure your pillowcase is always clean. The major causes of adult acne include: Stress, bad cosmetics, hormones & birth control pills.

How to Wear Blue Eyeshadow

In this week's US Weekly, makeup artist Jeanine Lobell explains the right & wrong way to wear blue eyeshadow.

Rule #1: Avoid opaque shades. Most skin tones can pull off sheer blues with a hint of shimmer, Lobell says.

Rule #2: Skip the black eyeliner. It's just too harsh. Instead, try a deeper-hued shade of blue. Navy or indigo works great.

Rule #3: 'Never wear the same shade all over,' Lobell says. Instead, stick to the same family of colors.

Ten Shaving Tips To Keep You Happy

Get ready for bathing suit season!

1. Don't waste your money on shaving creams formulated especially for women. They are virtually the same as the creams sold for men. Now if you can just find a scent that you can live with.

2. It is really important for your legs to be wet for at least a couple of minutes before you start shaving. Less than that and you risk irritation.

3. You are going to have to experiment with razors until you find the perfect one for you. Ask your friends for recommendations. I recently started sampling a variety and was amazed how different each of them feel.

4. Some shaving products can contain irritants which are going to cause red bumps and ingrown hairs. Try a shower gel or a hair conditioner instead and see if it works better for you.

5. Be sure to apply a moisturizer over your freshly shaved skin but be sure that it doesn't contain AHA.

6. Be gentle when you get out of the tub or shower. Be sure to dab your skin dry, gently.

7. If you find your skin is still irritated, try an antibiotic like Neosporin. It offers quick relief.

8. Be sure to exfoliate your skin before shaving. It gets rid of all the dead skin cells that could clog up your razor, preventing a close shave.

9. Be sure to change razors or cartridges on a regular basis. It only defeats the purpose to use a dull razor.

10. If your hair is course, try using an alum block to lift the hairs.

4 Dos & 4 Don’ts to Help Slow the Aging Skin Process

You’re in your 20s or early 30s so this can’t be you, right? Wrong. You may be surprised to find your skin is prematurely aging even at your age. Here’s how to tell.

If you smoke, have spent a lot of time in the sun or experience high levels of stress, you may find yourself in this category no matter your age. Skin doesn’t keep track of your age, it simply reacts to how it’s treated, so if exposed to sun, smoke and stress, the skin will start ‘acting old.’ It will lose it’s glow or its elasticity. Lines will develop or open pores won’t go away. This can happen in your 20s & 30s as well as your 40s.

Here are 4 dos & 4 don’ts to help slow down the aging process and leave your skin glowing at any age.

Do stop smoking. Smoking is the 2nd biggest cause of skin damage after sun exposure. The nicotine constricts your blood vessels & decreases the flow of oxygen to the skin.

Do cleanse daily. You’ll want a cleanser that contains alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids to help shrink open pores which seem to get bigger as we age.

Do exfoliate often. A gentle scrub or peel-off face mask removes dead cells and keeps the skin glowing.

Do use an eye cream daily. Eyes are one of the first places to show aging. The skin around the eyes is extra thin. Protect it with eye cream.

Don’t pull & rub your skin
. Aging skin has been under attack by UV rays, stress and carbon monoxide. You don’t want to stress it more by pulling on it.

Don’t forget to moisturize.
Rich creams are your friend. Dry, dehydrated skin leads to aging. The more hydrated the skin, the less noticeable lines and wrinkles are.
Don’t ignore your neck and chest. The neck and chest are first to show the signs of aging, yet most of us ignore them. Look for moisturizers that have age-fighting ingredients like vitamin A (retinols), kinetin, copper or vitamin C.

Don’t forget the sunscreen. This is a no-brainer. You’ve had it ingrained in your head since youth, but seriously, even in winter it can take just 20 minutes of unprotected sun exposure to damage the skin.

Determine Your Skn Type

To determine what skin type you have, take the 'skin test.' To do this, wash your face & pat it dry then take a few pieces of rice paper or lens-cleaning tissue paper & press on different spots on your face. If your skin is oily, the paper will stick, pick up oily spots & become translucent. If the paper doesn't stick or pick up any oily spots, your skin is dry. If it sticks in your t-zone (forehead, nose & chin) then you have combination (or normal) skin. Sponsored Links

About 70 percent of women have combination skin.{br]
Here are the 5 different skin types & their characteristics.

Type 1: Oily Oily skin tends to shiny with enlarged pores, and is prone to blackheads & blemishes. You might experience some tightness.

Type 2: Combination/normal This skin type has medium pores, a smooth & even texture, good circulation, healthy color, may tend toward dryness on the cheeks while being oily in the t-zone.

Type 3: Sensitive Sensitive skin tends to be thin, delicate with fine pores. It flushes easily, is prone to broken capillaries, is frequently allergic & can be rashy.

Type 4: Dry Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing, & have fine wrinkles, flaking & red patches. In women of color, skin may appear ashy or dull from dead skin buildup.

Type 5: Aging or sun-damaged This skin also feels tight with visible wrinkles, slack skin tone -- especially around the cheeks & jawline -- with leathery texture & broken capillaries.
