Sunscreen VS Sunblock?

Q. Whats the Difference Between a Sunscreen and a Sunblock?

A.Sunscreens are the most popular at the moment. Available in creams, lotions and gels, they contain chemicals that absorb UV rays. They are also inconspicous on the skin. The chemicals that are most often found in sunscreens include PABA, Benzophenones, Cinnamates, Salicylates,

Sunblocks instead of absorbing UV rays, reflect them. At one time sunblocks could be spotted by the opaque white film, but new technology has created sunblocks with particles so tiny, that the opaque film in no longer noticeable. Chemicals most common in sunblocks include Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

Top 8 causes of dark circles

Most People Inherit the Tendency for Dark Circles
-e.waverly

Black or dark circles under or around the eyes can be caused by many different factors. The following are the most common causes of those unattractive dark circles.

HEREDITY
Like varicose veins, dark circles under the eyes are usually an inherited trait. If you have dark circles, there is a good chance that others in your family also have them. The skin under the eye is very thin. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint. The more transparent your skin, also an inherited trait, the darker the circles appear.

EXPOSURE TO THE SUN
Even in darker skinned people, exposure to sunlight, especially during the summer months, can cause a higher-than-normal level of skin pigmentation (melanin) under the eyes. People get sun tans because exposure to the sun increases the natural pigmentation of the skin and draws that pigmentation to the surface. The same principle applies to the skin under the eyes.

ALLERGIES, ASTHMA and ECZEMA
Any condition that you have that causes your eyes to itch can contribute to darker circles under the eyes because rubbing or scratching the skin can darken the skin. Hay fever sufferers particularly will notice under-eye "smudges" during the height of the allergy season. Some food allergies can also cause the area under the eyes to appear darker.

MEDICATIONS
Any medications that you are taking that causes blood vessels to dilate, can cause circles under the eyes to darken. Because the skin under the eyes is very delicate, any increase blood flow shows through the skin.

NUTRITION
The lack of nutrients in the diet, or the lack of a balance diet, can contribute to the discoloration of the area under the eyes.

FATIGUE, LACK OF SLEEP
A lack of sleep or excessive tiredness can cause paleness of the skin, which again allows the blood underneath the skin to become more visible and appear more blue or darker.

PREGNANCY and MENSTRUATION
The skin can also become more pale during pregnancy and menstruation, which again allows the underlying veins under the eyes to become more visible.

AGE
If you have a propensity to have dark circles under you eyes, as you grow older, they are likely to become more noticeable and permanent. Excess folds of skin under the eyes will also make dark circles more pronounced.

Look younger in 3 steps

Here are a few beauty tricks that will make you look younger with just a sweep of a blush brush or mascara wand.

1. Watch your blush You'll look older the lower you apply your blush. Find your cheekbones & sweep high.

2. Lipstick shade can age you Another trick to looking younger is to steer clear of brown lipstick shades & loud, outdated colors.

3. Don't overpluck Once you hit your 30s, you'll want to be careful not to overpluck your eyebrows since brows are less apt to grow back if you excessively pluck.

Skip the Perfume

It's Summer, Skip the PerfumeIt's summertime, and it's time to try something new. Instead of slathering on body cream and a spritz of perfume, slick on a scented bath oil after your shower. I like Jo Malone French Lime Blossom ($60 at jomalone.com). Your skin will be super-soft and you'll smell like a citrus grove in summer.

Vaseline - Eye Makeup Remover?

There are all sorts of eye makeup removers on the market but the best one I've found is Vaseline. I learned this trick in high school from Seventeen Magazine & I've been using it ever since. Why? Well, it's easy & it doesn't sting the eye. And it's cheap. Some beauty experts tout Vaseline is actually good for the skin around the eyes. (I don't really buy that -- the tender skin around my eyes doesn't seem better than average after years of Vaseline).

How Much to Tip?

When you get your hair cut, colored, blown-out & shampooed, how much to tip? And what if there are several different people involved from assistants to the main stylist? You are expected to tip 15-20 percent to the stylist & $5 to each individual who shampoos and/or blows out your hair. The same rule applies to your manicurist, your aesthetician & anyone who spends time making you look beautiful (at a cost). They get 15-20 percent as well.

Get Sexy Wavy hair

Here's How:

1. Spray freshly washed roots with volumizing spray. I like Bumble & Bumble or you can try Aveda volumizing tonic .

2. If hair is naturally course or curly, work a straightening balm through hair. Here's a great list of balms .

3. Blow dry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work.

4. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style, according to celebrity stylist Oscar Blandi)

5. Using a 1-inch barrel curling iron, take a 1-inch portion of hair and wrap around the barrel of the curling iron. You'll want to alternate the direction of the curl as well. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel). Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root. When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose.

6. After curling each portion, roll & pin curls to your scalp.

7. Once curls have cooled, release them.

8. Remove nozzle from dryer & gently loosen waves with cool air. 'Let the wind separate them,' Blandi tells Us Weekly. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.

9. To add shine, spritz a hair serum . Or forego hair serum & spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea spray

10. Set with a spritz of hairspray. Just don't overdue it, you don't want to new waves to be 'crunchy.'

What You Need:
Volumizing spray
Straightening balm (if you have thick, course hair)
Hair dryer
A 1-inch barrel curling iron
Shine serum
Hairspray
Saltwater spray

Shelf life of foundation

Check the ingredients: A water-based foundation will last up to 12 months, oil-based will last up to 18 months. You may find you need two different shades of foundation each year: One for summer when your skin is naturally darker & one for winter when you're lighter. Extra tip: If your water-based foundation dries out before it's expiry date, simply add a few drops of alcohol-free toner & shake to get rid of clumps. No need to do this to oil-based foundations. Because they contain oil, they will tend to separate. You have to shake anyway.
