How To Protect Your Lips

The skin on our lips is very thin and there are no oil glands to help protect them. So, it's up to you. Here are a few things you should know about your lips and how to care for them.

Here's How:
1. The Reasons...
2. Heat as well as cold can contribute to dried out lips.
3. Another cause of dry lips is aging. The older you get, the more prone they are to chapping.
4. Avoid licking your lips. Easier said than done. I know but read on.
5. Another bad habit that you can fall into is biting off bits of dead skin.
6. Chewing on your lips is more popular than you might think. And for women who wear lipstick, here is a bit of trivia that I dug up for you...
7. Did you know that women who are habitual lip chewers eat four to nine pounds of lipstick during their life?
8. How To Protect Your Lips...
9. Drink plenty of water to moisturize your lips from the inside.
10. Cracked lips could be a sign that your diet is low in B vitamins.
11. Keep lips well lubricated at all times and this means at bedtime as well. My lips are especially dry right after brushing my teeth!
12. I find that one lip balm is not enough. I keep one in my desk drawer, one in the bathroom, and one in each of my purses.

Tips:
Remember, the most expensive lipstick is not going to help dried, crusty lips.
During the winter, you might be tempted to apply a layer of lip balm followed by a layer of lipstick. Instead of the lip balm during the day, switch to a moisturizing lipstick and save the lip balm for before you go to bed.
Lip balm makes a great moisturizer for your cuticles!

How to wear red lipstick

Why is it that red lipstick never seems to go out of style? Red is still hot for spring, according to the fashion magazines. But how to wear it?

The secret lies in the rest of your face. The paler the skin, the bigger the pop. And you’ll want to go light on the eyes and the blush, otherwise you’ll risk looking like a clown. Here’s how to do it: skip the eyeliner and go only for mascara (black for brunettes, brown for blondes & redheads), dust your face with powder and your cheeks with a soft blush. Always line your lips before applying color. Great shade of red: Arouse from the Prescriptives Modernista line. Extra tip: Pair your red lips with red nails. Try Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color, with real diamond particles. I like Diamond & Rubies ($4.50).

Great lipstick tips & tricks

Rona Berg, in her book, "The Beauty Basics," lists a bunch of great lipstick tips & tricks I want to share with you. I've added a few of my own too. Follow these lipstick tips & tricks and you'll save money, you'll look prettier & your lipstick will last longer.

Tip #1: Store lipstick in the fridge. It will last weeks longer.

Tip #2: Never use a tester on your lips. It's just plain unhygienic. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It's a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand.

Tip #3: Use liner on your lips as a base. Want lipstick to last longer, than fill in your lips with the liner first. If you're using light lipstick, try a nude liner. Then slick your lipstick on top.

Tip #4: Don't skip the liner.

Tip #5: Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. This is a trick I learned years ago from my mom. After applying lipstick, take your index finger & pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth.

Tip #6: Lipstick can act as a blush. But never use blush as a lipstick.

Tip #7: Apply liner first. Lipstick tends to feather if you apply liner second. Also, you won't be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first.

Tip #8: The older you are, the 'creamier' your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.

Tip #9: Don't throw out a bad color lipstick. Instead, use other colors to perfect your own shade. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that's too bright.

Tip #10: For 'plump' lips, apply liner just outside your natural lipline. 'Nuff said.

Tip #11: Keep lip gloss on longer with liner. Lip gloss is infamous for wearing off fast, but if you fill in lips first with the liner, the gloss has something to stick to.

Tip #12: Heal -- don't throw out -- a broken lipstick. If your lipstick breaks off, simply take off the broken portion with a tissue, then slowly wave a lit match under the broken piece of lipstick. When it's melted a bit, put it back on the base, swivel it down and put it in the fridge -- uncovered -- for 5 minutes.

Tip #13: Avoid orange or brown shades. They tend to make teeth appear yellow.

Tip #14: Save the last bits. Down to the last bit of you favorite lipstick? There's plenty more at the bottom of your tube. Scrape out the last bits with a cotton swap or orange stick & mix it with Vaseline or lip gloss in a lipstick pallette.

Tip #15: Keep lipstick off glass. Discreetly lick the lip of the glass before touching your lips to it. It works!

Where Does Lipstick Go When it Wears Off?

Lipstick that doesn’t end up on your cup or your husband’s cheek, will end up in you (as crazy as that seems). The average woman consumes 6 pounds of lipstick over the course of her lifetime. Bizarre, but true. However, there’s no need to worry, the ingredients in lipstick won’t harm you and are broken down by stomach acids.

Keep Lipstick off your teeth

Keep Lipstick off your teeth

Here's a simple trick the models use to keep the lipstick off your teeth. Apply your lipstick like you always do, then pop a finger in your mouth, close your lips around your finger and pull it out. The excess lipstick that would get on your teeth should be on your finger.

Quick Makeup Tips

Quick Tips

It's Monday, were you late today due to your morning routine? The hardest day to wake up is Mondays so here are some tips on looking good when you have just minutes to make it out the door:

1. Skip everything but the mascara & lipstick. Bright lipstick will brighten an otherwise 'blah' face. Mascara balances out your face.

2. If your hair is greasy but you don't have time for a shower, put a bit of baby powder on your brush it run it through hair close to the roots.

3. To cover up bags quickly, dot concealer under eyes & blend it in then follow with powder. Yes, foundation would cover better, but that takes much more time.

*Let's Create Sultry Smoky Eyes*

Do you want to create sexy smoky eyes like Jessica Simpson or Jennifer Lopez? Then read this great article from Kim at Overallbeauty.com

------------------------------------------------
*Let's Create Sultry Smoky Eyes*

They say there is nothing sexier than a pair of sultry smoky eyes, smoky eyes done so right that can cause a man to stop in his tracks. But - do you know how to create a perfect set of smoky eyes?

What you need to get started:
Eye Primer
Loose powder
Dark Eyeshadow
Medium - grey eyeshadow
Black Mascara
Magic Lash Eyelash Enhancer

Now the idea is to be able have smoky eyes yet not look so much like you forgot to take your eye makeupoff last night. Even though, that has been known as a turn on for a quite lot of men, makes them wonder what you been up.To start creating the Look you must have a base for it. This helps to keep the color in one place.

Smooth on a eyeshadow primer, some say foundation is good to use as long as its color doesn't take away from what you aretrying to achieve. Now pat on loose powder setting the base. The real secret to the smoky look is in the color eyeshadow you use.

Tips: If your eyes are blue and you're blond, then go for greensinstead, the darker the better. If your eyes are green then go for blues again the darkest shades of blues you like. If your eyes are brown then you're just lucky with your choices of colors. Now purple eyeshadow is a color that everyone can try. Just try it in Plum, Berry and others like those.

Rim your eyes with a black or grey pencil drawing a line along both upper and lower lash line. Starting from inner corner of your eyes going outward starting a fine line going into a heavier line as you draw outwards the outer corner. If black or grey seems too harsh for your the Look you're going for, then try either dark brown, plum or taupe instead.Apply a medium - grey eyeshadow all over your lids, stopping at the crease.

Apply your dark eyeshadow into the crease, then take a angled brush and apply the dark eyeshadow onto the eyelinerand then smudge it well with a cotton swab keeping as much of the color at the outer corner of your eyes. The angledbrush is great for getting eyeshadow up under your lashes on the bottom which in turn helps keep your eyeliner in place. Its the smudging that got to be done carefully.

The idea is to blend the eyeshadow and eyeliner together. If you wanted a more "feline" aka cat eyes then using a liquid eyeliner would be best. Helping to contrast the darkness of your eyeshadow, sweep a pearlized ivory eye shadow over your browbones for a wide-eyed look.

By applying a little at a time, you are building up the effort gradually till you like what you see.Finishing off the look with one coat of black mascara, one coat of Magic Lash if you want super long eyelashes to go alongwith this Look, then one more coat of black mascara.Dark colors trend to make small eyes look even smaller, you can open them up by lining the rims from theinner to the center with a light-colored pencil, rather than dark pencil, pat on pale eyeshadow on thecenter of each lid.

That should cause the small eyes to seem bigger. For the rest of this ideal Look. Finish off by using a tawny blusher or a bronzing powder. Itsnatural color won't complete with the rest of your makeup. Sweep it over your cheekbone, blending awayto the edges into your hairline.Keeping your lips neutral gives this Look its real impact.

Go for a pinkish - beige shade of lip penciland smudge it over your entire mouth for a matte, justed been kissed yet understated effect. Now your eyesare ready for whatever you might have planned. This Look can be toned down for work but who would want to?

Katie Holmes Makeup

Katie Holmes Makeup

At the age of 16, Katie Holmes landed the role of a Park Avenue princess in Ang Lee's brilliant The Ice Storm. After an acclaimed performance she moved on to star in the hugely successful WB teen drama Dawson's Creek. We also loved her in Pieces of April. At present, her blossoming career is slightly overshadowed by the fact that she's the paramour of Tom Cruise. He has proclaimed his love for her with such gusto it's downright contagious. How can anyone resist her? Captured here looking every bit the fair young star, we asked makeup artist Deborah Grayson how to replicate this modern Snow White look.

To Get the Katie Holmes look:

Step 1 Begin by gently exfoliating and moisturizing the entire face.

Step 2 Tidy up the eyebrows by brushing with a hard-bristled brow brush; then pluck any errant hairs. Blend a medium-brown brow pencil in to fill in any sparse areas.

Step 3 Apply a beigey-nude powder eye shadow to the lids and a creamy ecru tone just under the arch of the brows.

Step 4 For Katie's alluring eyes, apply a strip of false lashes to the upper eyelash line. The trick to applying false lashes is to make sure the eye area is dry first. Apply the special glue in teeny pinpoint-size drops to the false lash, allow it to become tacky for about 30 seconds and then place against the curve of your natural lashes. You can use mascara after about five minutes, when the glue is completely dry.

Step 5 Use a charcoal brown pencil liner to the rim of the lower lash line. Just dot the pencil lightly across the actual lash line.

Step 6 Apply a moist foundation lightly and blend carefully. You can use your fingers or a soft sponge.

Step 7 Use a fluffy blush brush to enhance your cheeks with a nude-pink blush applied to the highest part of the cheekbones. Blend well.

Step 8 Use a lip brushto carefully paint on a classic pink, glossy lipstick.

Celebrity Eyelash Trends

The Lash Line
Go Long! If you've ever fantasized about fuller, longer eyelashes, you're in luck this fall, because lash extensions--false eyelashes that last six to eight weeks--are fast becoming this season's hottest accessory. "They make you feel fluttery and pretty," says Dionne Phillips, an eyelash professional at L.A.'s Kate Somerville salon.

Eyes on the Prize: Keep your glamorous new lashes looking lustrous with a little TLC. First, "use an oil-free makeup remover" to avoid stripping the glue holding your extensions on. Also avoid sleeping facedown so you won't "smash your lashes." Overall, though, "There's basically no maintenance. Just brush them with your fingers and go."

Power Play: A touch of nude lip gloss and shimmery bronzer are all you need to highlight your new look. "It's really pretty and soft and all-American," says Phillips. "It actually looks like you have a full face on without blush and foundation."

Celebs with this trend Paris Hilton, Hilary Duff, Tyra Banks, Eva Longoria

Celebrity Looks

Which celebrity look do you want to learn more about? What style do you like? Comment to this post and let me know!

Paris Hilton

Makeup: Though Paris’s [spray] tan complexion requires minimal makeup, she loves to experiment. When she isn’t decked out in heavily made-up eyes or overdone blush, she favors glamorously smoky eyes, glossy pink lips, and bronzed cheeks to boot.

Jessica Simpson

Makeup: Has a typical California Girl perma-tan (Faux or real? You be the judge!), but goes charmingly light on makeup. Glossy lips and mascara for day, blush and lipstick for night.

Nicole Kidman

Makeup: Usually favors sheer, feminine makeup, light enough to let her creamy complexion and freckles peek through

Katie Holmes

Makeup: A natural, easy-going look, with focus on her sparkly brown eyes
