Aromatherapy Guide

"Introducing the Comprehensive Aromatherapy Guide That Will Have You Relaxed, Working Smarter and Feeling Better in No Time!"

As many of you know I am a big believer in relaxing and taking care of yourself, and a great way to do that is through the power of aromatherapy. I have so many candles and scented stuff around my house, but the problem is that I am mixing all the scents and not getting the full benefit from one particular scent!

This book explained the power of aroma and what aromas work best for specific situations. It also has some great Herbal tea recipes. :-)

Blush Tips

Tips:

- Clean your brushes with baby wipes. If you don't keep your brushes clean, they'll gather bacteria and transfer it to your skin.

- For a sexy look, dab a little shimmery blush on the highest point of your cheekbone nearest your eye.

- Using powder blush? Always sweep it in one direction. Going over & over or around and around causes streaks & can hurt your brush.

- For gel blush, dab a dot on the apple of the cheek and two smaller dots graduating up the cheekbone. Blend the dots together up to the hairline.

- Dusky pink blush will warm up any tired-looking skin.

How to pick the right blush

The right blush during the right time of day is key. But how to pick the perfect blush? Should you go powder, cream, tint, shimmer or gel?

Powder Blush
Powder blush is great for all skin types, but best for oily skin and anyone looking for long-lasting color (it's the densest of the blushers).

Cream Blush
This type of blush is best applied with the fingers. It's also dense, but lets your skin show through. Cream blush is particularly suited for dry skin because of its rich, moisturizing ingredients.

Gel Blush
Gel blushes provide a sheer glow. They work best on oily to normal skin and are hard ot spread onto dry skin since they are fast-drying.

Tint Blush
Like gel blush, tints are fast-drying and can look streaky over foundation. If you're going to use it, blend it fast and blend it well. Once it's set it won't budge until you wash your face.

Shimmers
These are great for giving a light gleam to your cheekbones. These are best for nighttime. The great thing about shimmers are you can dab them on your forehead, in the bow of your upper lip or in the inner corners of your eyes. But avoid your highly wrinkled spots, since these will accentuate them

* I use Bronzing Beads for my "blush". I have a tan complextion, so it gives a sunkissed natural look :-)

Orange yogurt mask

Making your own orange yogurt mask.

Ingredients Needed:
1 tsp plain yogurt (I chose Balkan Style)
the juice of 1/4 of an orange.

Stir to mix and then dip fingers into mixture and smooth onto face. The sensation is both cool and relaxing. Leave on for a five minutes and then rinse. If you are feeling sluggish, this is the perfect mask for you. The yogurt will cleanse and nourish. The orange is full of Vitamin C and AHA's.

Homemade Salt Scrub

Winter is a harsh time for skin. Excessively cold air coupled with lack of humidity in indoor spaces caused by heating can leave skin dehydrated, scaly & patchy. Head to a posh spa & you can treat yourself (for a mere $100-$300) to an all-over body salt scrub. Or why not do-it-yourself for next to nothing? All you need is liquid body soap, a coarse salt & a nice, warm bath.

Here's How:
1. Run a warm bath & soak for a good 10 minutes (you can also skip the bath & do this in the shower)
2. Put on loofah mitts (the softer, the better)
3. sprinkle a palmful of sea salt on a mitt
4. mix in liquid body soap
5. rub mitts together so the salt & soap are mixed together
rub the mixture all over your body, rubbing in a circular motion. Rub harder on tougher areas such as the bottom of your feet, elbows & knees. Avoid your face.
7. Rinse thoroughly
8. Follow with a thick moisturizer (we like Shea butter). Avoid alpha hydroxy products.

Is your face squeaky clean?

You love the way your skin feels tight & almost squeaky clean after you wash your face, right? This is actually not a good sign, but a sign that your skin is dehydrated. You want your skin to feel soft & supple, not tight & dry after you wash it. Make sure you're using the right cleanser for your skin type.

Dry Lips...try gloss

Your lips are susceptible to drying because they contain no oil glands. In the winter you may experience chapped lips from licking lips. This winter steer clear of matte lipsticks which tend to be drying while also showing off scaly lips. Instead, try lip gloss. A great gloss (like MAC's lipglass) will prove more moisturizing. Don't want to mess with a gloss? A great hydrating lip balm is Blistex Lip Infusion. it contains lanolin which keeps the moisture in.

How to get rid of dry lips

I learned this years ago from a teen magazine. If you have dry scaly lips, simply lather on Vaseline, rub in well, then take an old toothbrooth and brush the Vaseline into your lips. You'll find the toothbrush exfoliates, while the Vaseline moisturizes. Wipe mouth with a warm, damp washcloth & voila!

5 Things We Know (& You Do Too, Deep Down) About Being Beautiful This Year

In honor of the new year, we'd like to remind you ...
-Julyne Derrick

1. Aging gracefully trumps aging fearfully any day in our book. No one loves, loves, loves fine lines, wrinkles & cellulite, but the most lovely women in the world are the ones who don't bother with them and who don't obsess over them. So this year, resolve to put away those fears & focus on the positive aspects of aging. Like how much wealthier, funnier one gets as they get older.

2. Beauty really does (& we mean really) come from within. We love a woman who exudes happiness & contentedness. So this year resolve to flush out the bad things in your life: the negative friends, the annoying groups & clubs you loathe attending, some of the demands your husband & kids place on you. Take some time for yourself, get yourself content & watch as your skin changes. Yep, it's not all about moisturizer, dear.

3. It's all about how YOU feel. There is no better way than to revive your inner sex goddess than to get a makeover (oh wait, maybe full on body treatments are even better? hmmmm, see #4 next). If you or a friend are entering the new year feeling not so sexy, treat yourself (or them) to a haircut & color & afterwards get yourself to a makeup counter & request a makeover. Only buy what you love, love, love. Step over to another makeup counter, have the technician wipe it all off and start over. Again, only buy what you love, love, love. Keep doing this until you are either sick of makeovers or you have purchased as much makeup as one person should own in a lifetime.

4. Spa treatments are a luxury worth the splurge. Yes, you just dropped a ton of money on Christmas presents. But you are also very exhausted from visiting with people and cooking up a storm over the past couple weeks, aren't you. So then woman, get thee to the spa. Tell your husband you deserve it for all the gifts you have to wrap and all the meals you've had to prepare. And if he balks, threaten to bring him along. He just may love it. We firmly believe no woman should ever feel guilty over a seaweed wrap & deep tissue massage.

5. Treat someone you love to a facial, a massage or a foot rub. We all know from Psych 101 that nothing makes you feel better than giving back to someone. So put this in your pocket of tricks for the year: Offer your mate a backrub out of the blue. Give your daughter a foot rub when she's watching TV. Over at your best friend's house and she's stressed? Offer her a nice massage.

Have a happy, happy New Year
