How to Keep Your Feet in Tip-Top Shape in Summer

How to Keep Your Feet in Tip-Top Shape in Summer

If you are running around in flip-flops all summer, chances are the skin on your feet has toughened alligator-like. Here are some secrets to keeping your feet in great shape:

1. Pumice stone. Forget all those wimpy foot scrubs, you need a real pumice stone to rub down the callouses and other hard spots on your feet. Wait until the end of your shower, when your feet have had a chance to soften in the water, then apply a moisturizing soap and have at it with the pumice stone.

2. Moisturize. Follow a good "pumicing" with heavy duty moisturizer. Rub moisturizer into soles of feet, then sleep in socks. By morning your feet should be soft.

3. Keep toes polished. Don't run around public with unpainted or chipped toenail polish. There's nothing that screams "unkept woman" more than a foregone pedicure. Consider a clear or light polish, which tend to last much longer than colors and are less obvious when chipped. If your nails are a mess, wear closed-toed shoes.

4. Keep clippers on hand. Big faux pas: Long toenails. If you can scratch a mosquito bite on the back of your leg with your big toe, you know it's time for a little clip-clip.
